How do I prevent text from being replaced as I type?

When editing, I like to add words or phrases in the middle of text that I
have already typed. For some reason, if I try to insert a word or phrase into
the middle of a sentence, it replces the text. It is very frustrating having
to retype the ends of sentences just because I want to add or change a word!

I've tried disabling the autocorrect option of replacing words as you type,
but it hasn't helped.

Press the INSERT key to turn off Overtype or double-click the OVR at the
bottom middle of your Word screen.

Thanks Bill! You saved me a ton of frustration. I knew there had to be a
simple explanation. I'm new to WORD and need to learn some more about all its
tricks.

Thanks again,

The main trick here is that it is far too easy to accidentally hit the
Insert key when you're aiming for Backspace or Delete. You don't usually
notice it until you start trying to insert some text.
