I want to prevent a specific word from being hyphenated. The only way I can
figure out how to do it is to manually hyphenate the entire document
(currently 30 pages single spaced). I could insert a non-breaking hyphen but
then it would print.
Thanks

You can apply a "no proofing" character style to the word (see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/MasterSpellCheck.htm#ExemptingText). To
facilitate this, it should be possible to save the formatted word as an
AutoCorrect entry. Or, if the document has already been created, you could
use Replace to find all instances of the word and replace it with the same
word formatted with the "no proofing" style.

Hyphenation is part of the proofing tools. Hence, ensuring that a word isn't
proofed, results in it not being automatically hyphenated.

So select the word you don't want to be hyphenated, then in the status bar
at the bottom, select the language field and select "Do not check spelling
or grammar".

If you have a lot of words like that, it could be interesting to create a
character style which has hyphenation disabled.
