How do I prevent MS Word 2003 from crashing when mulitiple files .

My experience with MS Word 2003 (Office 2003 PRO) is that it closes suddenly
when I am switching between different word files. Upon restaring word, the
recovered files are shown however I find this software instability very
frustrating since the crash can occur before I can save changes to a
document. Interestingly, the error report sending feature does not pop-up
after the crash. Any suggestions? I've tried the autorepair feature but
this did nothing to solve my problem. I have scanned for potential viruses
but there is nothing to report there either.

P.S. I am using windows XP professional as my operating system.
