How do i prevent computer from sharing files or folder (wifi netwo

I might get AT&T highspeed connection with AT&T Wireless Gateway so that i
can share internet connection with my sister laptop but I don't want to share
files with my desktop computer and my sister laptop. How do i prevent or stop
sharing files/folders so that both computer can not share files?

Many people recommend WPA. Does the computer motherboard onboard network
connection have to support WPA in order for the wireless/router hardware base
stations WPA capability to work? or do i just get a wireless basestation
hardware that has a WPA capability and it will work.

What is the difference between a AT&T Wireless Gateway and a high-speed
modem connected to a wireless/router? Should i get the AT&T Wireless Gateway
or just get the AT&T highspeed modem and buy a wireless/router.

Aloha GT,

Go into Network Connections (Control Panel), right-click your network adapter,
choose Properties and uncheck the box next to "File and Printer Sharing."
That will prevent the file sharing.

Both the computer and the wireless router have to support WPA for it to work.
Any modern computer/router will.

I'm not familiar with the AT&T unit specifically so I'll pass on that one.

Hi

I personally Recommend to use a Modem and a separate Wireless Cable/DSL
Router.

The Router part of the Modem/Router combos is not as good as a stand alone
Router (less features and reduced flexibility).

Using a combo unit reduces your flexibility in future configuration of your
Network. I.e. If you want to upgrade the Wireless or other part that is
Router Related you have to get a Mode as well.

WPA is only related to the Wireless and not to the computer basic Hardware.
Most newer Laptop come with The Wireless Installed. You usually need to buy
a Wireless Network Card for a Desktop.

I need a Wireless Card what should I get? http://www.ezlan.net/faq#wcard

Can I use all the computer as Wireless with No Wired computer?
