How Do I Place a Note on a Particular Day in the Calendar?

Is there a way to place a note on a specific day in the Calendar? I know you
can do this with other email/calendar programs, but I can't find a way to
just place a note onto MS Outlook's calendar. I want to put a reminder on
certain days, when my husband is traveling, for example, but can't figure a
way to do this, without actually entering an appointment. Any suggestions??

You cannot add notes on a calendar. You can only enter events.

Thanks, Brian. Too bad :-( Corel's GroupWise allows you to place a note or
a task on any given day. So, what other kinds of "events" could I post on a
day, besides an actual calendar appointment? I'm trying to find a way to be
able to see important pieces of info on any given day, besides my meetings.

appointments and all day events are all outlook supports. journal is
typically used for this type of thing. If you use outlook 2007, tasks work
well too because they are shown under the days in day or week view.

The journal won't show up on the calendar, though, Diane. That's what I was
hoping to be able to accomplish. I understand appts. and all day events -
that's not the issue. Here's the issue: In order to post something I'd like
to know about on my calendar for that day (for instance, my husband is out of
town), I can't do that without posting an all day event, or some "fake" appt.
on my calendar. When I post that piece of info as an all day event, it then
looks like my calendar is blocked out all day, when someone else is trying to
send me a calendar invite. It appears that there is simply no way to post a
note on a specific day of the calendar, like I could with Corel's GroupWise.
Kind of a bummer, and an oversight, I think, on Microsoft's part.

Don't set the all day event as Busy and it will not block you as unavailable
when others try to set up appointments with you.

Um, no. All-day events, by default, do not mark the time as busy. They
mark the time as free. Simply do not change the default.

Thanks, Brian and Diane. I'll look to see how those all day events are
marked - as Busy or Available. Not sure if I've changed the default
selection, and whether or not that's a global change or just a per-event
change. If it's global, that would explain why my calender appears to be
blocked out. Hopefully, that's the case, and when I make the change, it will
affect ALL all-day events. Now, last question: When I change that, is that
only going forward (and will not change any current, all-day events)? In
other words, will I have to go back to ALL my all-day events (have a bunch
that are recurring events) and change each of them, individually?? Ugh.
Let's hope not :-(

it’s a per item setting so you'll need to change old ones. You can create a
custom view that groups by availability and drag items between groups to
change them quickly.

As far as I know, there's no way to change the default "Show time as" value.
It will always default to "free" for an all-day event and "busy" for a timed
event. Any existing event for which you wish the "Show time as" changed
will need to be done manually.

I don't know if this will be a solution for you but I had a similar issue. I
created a second Calendar named Notes. If there is an event I would attend if
my schedule changes, I'll put it there. If 'husband' out of town, put that
there. As I schedule appts, I display the Notes calendar alongside my main
calendar. This works great for me.

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but I use it all the
time. While in day view, doubleclick in the blank area below the date but
above the time. It will open a window titled Event. Enter your information
there. You can even set a reminder or recurrence (I use it for birthdays).
Hope this helps!
