I have searched the internet for this answer. You can do this in word 2003 no
problem. Is there no way to just use word without a third party software? I
need the barcde to go above the adress. ome sights say not supported in 2007.
This cant be true.

It is true, more or less.

The reason is that the PostNet barcode that Word generates is no longer
eligible for bulk mail discounts, so it's pretty much useless
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/897290). So Microsoft removed it from the
Envelope dialog and from mail merges
(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179199(TechNet.10).aspx#BKMK_Removed).

There is still a way to get a barcode, just not automatically. You can
create an envelope template
(http://www.gmayor.com/changing_envelope_layout.htm) or just use the Add To
Document button in the Envelope dialog. Insert a bookmark that covers the
address, or at least the zip code part of it. Above the address, insert a
barcode field (Insert > Quick Parts > Field > select "BarCode", then select
the bookmark's name in the middle of the dialog).

Is it really worth the effort? Probably not.

One of the envelope tempates associated with the linked page that can be
downloaded from my web site already has the bar code added?
