How do I open Word without a former document appearing?

Every time I open Word or request a new document I do not get a blank page,
but rather the same document I used for selling a set of twin beds.

Sounds like you may have saved something on your normal.dot template. Make
sure that you have your twein bed document saved somewhere. Go to your
templates and delete the normal.dot template. Go to your desktop and open
Word again. Word should automatically have created another normal.dot
template. That should solve your problem.

Please do not advise users to delete Normal.dot. Doing so could cause them
to lose customizations built up over many years. Renaming Normal.dot is
sufficient and allows many customizations to be retrieved via the Organizer.
