How do I open up Word documents made on NT in XP?

I'm fed up with Microsoft. I just installed Microsoft Office Student/Teacher
Edition 2003 on my Windows XP Home computer. Word does not open up any
documents, saying they're corrupted, etc. I was just working on these on a
Windows NT computer at work. Are NT and XP incompatible? This is shameful.
What am I doing wrong?

It isn't a difference in operating systems. Any chance you saved your
documents to removable media from Word directly? This will corrupt them.
