How do i open photo attachments without saving them first

Is it now manditory to save photo attachments which arrive on Outlook emails?
Previously by clicking on open they would open to be viewed - now one is sent
to Microsoft Office Picture Manager where every box has a red cross in the
centre and there are 334 boxes the same but not the photo I want to see. Is
there a problem with the installation or do I need to do something in the
setup. I believe this feature came with an update and no instructions. Thank
you team

No it's not mandatory. You are looking at a (full) cache folder which you
should clear. You can find the location in the registry by looking up the
following key;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security

Copy/paste that in the address bar in Explorer to navigate to it.
