I have a number of IBM Lotus Word Pro file on floopy dicses. I need to open
the files, but no longer have the IBM Lotus Smart Suite program. Is there a
way to still open the word pro files in MS word?

Sorry, Word cannot import WordPro files. In another newsgroup post, somebody
said that OpenOffice can open WordPro files and save them in Word format, but
I haven't tried it myself. You might also consider a third-party conversion
program such as Dataviz Conversions Plus.

IBM Lotus Word Pro file on floopy

First of all, do not open the file from the floppy. That is true of all files, not just Word Pro.

As for reading it, there are, I think, only the following options:

- Buying the latest version of SmartSuite, which from a reseller like Tekdeal.com is an incredible bargain;

- Downloading the free Verity Key viewer from the IBM/Lotus site. While that site can be frustrating to navigate, the search facility is good. www.lotus.com

- I have heard that Sun's StarOffice suite has converters for Word Pro. In contrast, the freely available and closely related OpenOffice.org suite does not. However, unless you want the drawing module of StarOffice, I don't see the advantage to getting it over SmartSuite, if the purpose is to read SmartSuite (Word Pro) documents.
