When I try to open past email that I have save onto a folder on the desktop
of my computer, outlook reads "UNABLE TO READ ITEM." I try to open the email
with MSword or Notepad but all that comes up is weird squares or y's and e's.
Can anyone please help.

Well, I am using Outlook 2000 professional. What i did was created a folder
in my documents to save old emails. I dragged the email directly from
outlook into the folder. After i did that i deleted the email from outlook.

The general information on the email say that it is an "outlook item" in
various sizes.

Please help if you can. thanks..

Then they are saved in msg-format? You should be able to open them with
Outlook then or at least be able to drag them back into Outlook so you can
read them from within Outlook.

Well that is the problem. I cannot open them or drag them into outlook at
all. When i do try to open them, OUTLOOK reads "Unable to read item." Could
they possibly be in any other format or is there any way to open them to see
what format they really are in?

If they are in text format what can i do?

Thanks for taking the time to help..

This is a strange problem.
Did you change your Outlook version?
And if you drag and drop a new email, can you open it or drag it back
to Outlook?

If you like you can send me a example email, I will check it for you
opening it with my Outlook. Please zip the msg file before sending it
to my hotmail acccount (see my profile).
