How do I open a pps attachment through outlook?

I have Microsoft Office 2003 with all updates and I use Outlook (not
Express). When I get an e-mail with a pps attachment it won't open
automatically. What can I do?

Do you have PowerPoint installed on your computer? If not, download the free
PowerPoint viewer from Microsoft (www.microsoft.com/downloads). Install it.

Imagine how happy the malcontents would be if attachments opened
*automatically* when a recipient read their e-mails. Right-click on the
attachment to open it, or save the file and open it.

I.m sorry, I should have said, it does not open when I right click it. I get
a tiny little power point icon but it won't open. I have to save it, open
Power Point and import it. I didn't have this problem before I got a new
computer and bought new software. I could right click and it would open,
what do I need to do?

Yes, Power Point AND power Point Viewer are both installed

You don't need both, surely.
That said,

a) if you save the attachment to your hard drive, can you then open it in
Powerpoint by double-clicking on it to launch it?
b) does this happen with anything besides PowerPoint files?

Where is this "tiny power point icon"? Is it a button in the Windows
taskbar? Is it a small window on the desktop? If so, maybe the window is
being opened at a very small size and you have to enlarge it.

In Explorer, Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types, what is listed as the
server application for PPS files? When you click on the Advanced button,
what application is specified for the Show action?

When I right click it opens a word page with the power point icon in the
center of the page. If I click the icon it simply opens another word page
with the little icon in the center.
When I am in IE, there is no Folder Options in Tools.

Open WINDOWS explorer or use the Folder Options in Control Panel.

Explorer and INTERNET Explorer are different applications. If you can't
figure it out, use the Folder Options applet in Control Panel as it gets you
to the same dialog.

By the way, for me, the PPS filetype for the Show action is associated to
the "Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Show" application and has the command line:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\POWERPNT.EXE" /s "%1"

Note the use of quotes due to spaces being in the path to the executable
(and also possibly in the command-line parameter to specify the file to
open). I'm using Office XP. Your path will be different if you are using a
different version of Office or installed Office to another path.

I opened the Folders from the control panel and found that pps files are
opened with Microsoft Picture Manager. I do have Office XP but I am not
familiar with how, or where, to add the command you mentioned. Can I just
change it to open with Power Point when I am in the folders?

Easiest/newbie method is to hold down the Control key and Right Click on the
..pps file - select Open With from the context menu. Select PowerPoint and
check the box to always use this file.

Yep, that works. Click on the Change button to select which program opens
PPS files. Milly's method works, too, because ends up opening the same
"Open With" dialog.
