how do i obtain my product key

I recently brought a compaq persario computer and I can't
open open my microsoft word without a product key and i
don't know how to obtain it on line. please can sombody
help me. it;s my first computer.

The product key should have been included in the package you got from
Compaq. If you have lost it, contact Compaq.

Your product key is a 20 or 25 character jumble of letters and numbers
- either taped to the outside of the computer case, or included in an
envelope of papers and CDs that Compaq should have provided. Maybe in
a large envelope marked "Do Not Discard" or the like.

An activated product key can be retrieved by products like Aida (free)
from <http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php>. Unfortunately, it sounds to
me that you are asking for help finding the key so you can activate
the product.

If this is a new computer, Compaq Support might be able to help you
retrieve the key. Otherwise, you need to carefully examine the
outside of the computer (all 6 sides), and check all the papers you
got with it.

He's looking for the MS Word product key, NOT the Windows XP product key
(which would usually be found on a sticker on the tower of new systems).
The MS Word product key will either be found on the MS Word CD envelope, or
on the front of the MS Word booklet.

Activation of Office components needs the Product ID number for them.
Open Word, cancel the warning about a limited number of uses without
activating, and go to its Help - About Word. There you will find the
number needed - 20 digits in four groups. Note it down, then go to the
Help - Activate Product item and enter it there when asked. The only
other information you have to give is country - though you can register
your name if you want
