How do I merge many chapters of a course into one manual?

I teach a course and each subject is a different chapter. I want to pull the
10 classes together into one merged workbook/manual and number the pages -
such as 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, etc....how do I do the merge, paginate and then create
a table of contents from the whole thing?

One way would be to create a new document, and insert each successive file
at the end of the preceding one.

Another way would be to create a new document and include an { includetext }
field for each of the chapter documents.

For either of these, it is especially helpful if all of the chapters are
based on the identical document template.

A tempting way is to use the Master Documents feature... I don't recommend
that method, though. Although it's designed to do precisely what you want,
it is seriously broken and virtually always ends up corrupting all or part
of the collection of documents.
