How do I merge mails from two computers into one?

I used to download my e-mails intermittenly into two computers (both into MS
Outlook 2003). Now I want to migrate all my previous mails (including
attachments) from both computers into a new computer (MS Outlook 2007) and to
have as a result one set of all my previous correspondence. How could I do
that?

On both machines, close Outlook. Then transfer (by whatever method you
have - network, flash drive, CD etc etc) each pst file to the new computer.
Do NOT overwrite any existing file. Ensure that the Read-only attribute on
both files is turned off.
Then open Outlook 2007, and do File-Open-Outlook Data File and navigate to
where you saved the files. (It's probably better to do one file at a time to
avoid confusion).
You then have two choices. You can either copy (or drag and drop) the data
from each old file to the new empty one, or, you can set one of the old
files as the default delivery location (I'm assuming that as they are 2003
files they are in the new Unicode format - if not, then ignore this bit),
and copy the data from the other old file into it.

The simplest way to achieve this is import your .pst (mail) file from
each copy of outlook 2003 into your outlook 2007.

You should be able to find the .pst files in the following location on
each PC:
C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Simply copy the .pst files to your new PC and then import them using
file>import.

Good luck!

No NO NO! ALL the advice on this and every other Outlook group says " do NOT
IMPORT"!

Why?

(Courtesy of Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook])

Importing an entire PST may well corrupt your profile and may create a ghost
PST that you can't close. Importing PST's will lose:
1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not advise
people to import a native file into Outlook.

That loses settings & data amongst other things

It is one thing to participate in public newsgroups and fora, and give
advice. It is quite another thing to post "advice" that has time and
again proven to create problems.

The original poster did the right thing to ask here, unlike many others
who come here to complain *after* they stupidly used 'Import'.
