I am not able to hoghlight a word document segment and then delete it with
the backspace key. I had that feature before. How do I bring it back.

On the General tab of Tools | Options, check the box for "Typing replaces
selection."

THANK YOU! That has been the most annoying thing ever!!
And so easy!!! THANK YOU!

Suzanne > Although your suggestion is fine, it still doesn't really solve
the problem. I really want that backspace button to work, and I even
un-installed and re-installed my entire office pack to make it work, but to
no effort....

I just want my backspace button to delete what I tell it to delete...

Suzanne > My deepest apologies to you. I got it working just like you said.
Apparently I did something wrong the first time. I am sorry, your answer is
correct and exellent! :)

I'm glad you got it working since there is not, AFAIK, any other explanation
for or solution to the problem!

Yay! I had this problem too, and your solution works nicely. However I found
the check box (in MS Word XP) under Tools - Options - Edit (not General).

Thanks!
