How do I make media player play links on web pages.

Aidan Brick

When I click on MP3 or MPG links on a web page (Explorer 6), the download
takes place and when complete a new webpage opens with a small image (white
square with a red cross) in the top left corner of the page. In order to
play it in Windows mediaplayer, I have to right click on the link in the
original web page and "save target as", download it to disk and then play it
in mediaplayer.

How do I get the original click to download and play the file in mediaplayer
(I have checked the file associations and they are all correct...I have even
changed the default action from play to open, but that also has no effect).
This behaviour began after I attempted to remove quicktime. Is that the
reason ?

Thanks for any help.

I have had the same problem with installing/uninstalling quicktime, the
solution I found was to go into quicktime's settings, change it's file type
associations so that it will only play by default quicktime specific files.
Then go into settings for media player and change them so that media player
is the default for mp3, mpg, mpeg avi etc file types. Then reboot and these
files should run as desired. HTH
