Hey folks,

I simply want my computer to open Hotmail (or Windows Live Mail) when I
click on an e-mail address on a web page. It currently opens that Windows
mail program that I'm honestly not too fond of.

Thanks in advance!

Right-click the Start button on your Desktop. Choose Properties. Click on
Customize. At the bottom of the window change Windows Mail to Window Live
Mail. Then click OK. Then click Apply and OK.

I have Windows Mail in that box but it still tries to use Outlook 2007 when
I click
on an email link.

Tom,

Click Start, select Default Programs
Click Set program access and computer defaults
Click Custom, and select Windows Mail
Click OK

Then, follow these steps:

Click Set your default programs
Select your mail client from the list
Click Set this program as default
Click OK

Interesting. So Windows Live Hotmail is actually an email program?
I assumed it was just a fancy new name for Hotmail.

However, I got the impression the OP wants to use WLM, not WLH.

Yes. Sort of. The MAPI dll (hmmapi.dll) is present in "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer". This module can handle mailto: and Simple MAPI calls.

It has taken me all afternoon to come up with a method to set my default
email to my Live Hotmail account.

First, Download, Extract, and Run the program at this site
http://www.winhelponline.com/articl...e-Default-Programs-tool-in-Windows-Vista.html
--> Set Windows Live Hotmail as the Default program.

Second, go to Run and enter regedt32. There, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows Live/Communications
Clients/Shared --> Right click on Mail Install Root; Select Modify; Change
C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\ to C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Hotmail\
--> Then click on File\Exit

Third, reboot your machine.

Now the MailTo: and Mail defaults should be set to go to your Windows Live
Hotmail login, or directly to the mail client if you have it save your
username and password.
