How do I make cell references return to normal?

Re Excel 97 ---

I copied some figures, one at a time, from a website and pasted them into a
spreadsheet.

Now I discover that the cells, in which those numbers were pasted, are no
longer referenced in the normal way, e.g., G8.

Instead, for instance, G8 is referenced as Table_5. And, I can't get
"Table_5" back to being "G8."

There are many similar instances (cells referenced by some Table_#) in the
spreadsheet. How do I get the cell references to return to normal?

When you say referenced, do you mean that in the address box now appears
Table_#?

Click on Insert, Name, Define, select the relevant Table name, and delete it

Yes, that does it!

I wondered what deleting that might do to the formulas using those cells,
but apparently no change.

Thanks.

Actually, in some instances, it does affect formulas using those cells.

OK, that can happen, eg =SUM(Table_1) will no longer work, which means you
will have to edit that formula to say eg =SUM(A20:A50).
Alternatively, do not delete those ones that have that effect.

Also, at least you now know what happened there!
