How do I make a hyperlinked PDF come up in the foreground?

I am distributing a PowerPoint 2003 show on CD using the package to CD
function. In the show I hyperlink to a PDF file users need to be able to
print. The pdf file sometimes, but not always, comes up in the background
rather than foreground so it is hidden from view. User thinks the hyperlink
has not worked when in fact the pdf file has opened but just can't be seen.
If the user clicks on the hyperlink a second time, then the pdf file comes up
in the foreground. Also, if the user hits "esc" then the powerpoint show
closes and the pdf file is visible.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and a fix? Someone said the
problem is that when another program is already open the Windows opens the
hyperlink file in the background. But Adobe Acrobat Reader is not running
when I hyperlink to it.

Strange.

Another visitor here has just mentioned something similar.

What software is invoked to view the PDF on the systems where this happens?
I've read that Reader7 is pretty shakey in this respect. Don't have it here
just yet but don't seem to be able to duplicate this particular problem either.

Could you supply more details -- software versions, windows versions, service
packs and so on?

As to the PPT show closing when they press ESC, that's by design. There's an
addin that can prevent this if you're running the show in a kiosk situation
where you control the computer, but it wouldn't help with your shows on CD.
