How do I login as an administrator?

K

Kolja

I am trying to delete the History folder and index.dat on
my computer.

I have already read the intructions
at "http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm".

Those instruction *do not* tell me how to login as an
administrator. There is no administrator login option on
my computer. There is only 1 user on my computer. Me.
Technically, I should always be logged in as an
administrator.

Please help. Thanks.

Kolja,

You did not mention the Operating System. For Windows XP Home Edition, you need to boot into Safe Mode to login as Administrator. For XP Professional, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the Welcome screen and type-in "Administrator" and it's password. For clearing the history of your profile, you may use another login [with Administrator privileges, ofcourse], not mandatory to use the built-in Administrator account.

For Win ME, use a boot disk as explained in Mike Burgess site:
Section "WinME users that need to delete the Temporary Internet Files"

Thank you, but I am not simply trying to clear the
history. I am trying to delete the history and cookie
folders. (Yes, I am using Windows XP Professional.) Do I
use the same method you described for deleting folders?

I suspect you are logged in a standard user or a restricted user, rather
than administrator.Verify what type accounts you have on your machine by
looking in the users/password folder in your control panel.
