How do I install an earlier version of IE?

Hi,

I would like to install an earlier version of IE, for testing during
web development, but Windows wont allow me to install an earlier
version as I already have v6 pre-installd with Windows. I have also
tried to uninstall IE in add/remove programs but it isnt there.

Is there any way that I could install an earlier version of IE? Ideally
I would like to have both the earlier version and the new version (or
maybe a few versions such as IE4, IE5, IE5.5, IE6 and, when MS gets a
move on, IE7).

Cheers

You can't install alongside but I think you can uninstall and reinstall an
older version. I think you have to edit the registry to let windows allow
the install. If this page doesn't show how, google reinstall IE and you
should be able to find the right web page.

If you have no joy installing an older version have you thought about
Virtual PC and installing an older version of Windows and whatever version
of IE you want.

You can't install an earlier version than that supplied with Windows,
because it relies so heavily upon IE's functionality.

Your only solutions are therefore to dual boot with multiple copies of
Windows 95, or use virtual machine software to the same end. The only
other alternative is to use multiple physical machines.

A far easier solution is to use code verification tools to ensure your code
complies to all the standards.

Standards are important. That's why everyone has their own... :)

I do make all effort to comply with coding standards but as you'll ba
aware, not all browsers do (well, more like they have their own way of
interpretting it). Its really for more unpredictable CSS styles such as
float layouts that Im interesting in viewing.

Anyway, thanks all for the repliews. I may looking into some of the
suggestions but it seems quite an effort to do this.
