How do I insert a sharp or flat (musical symbols) into the text?

The sharps and flats available under inserts (using the engraver font) leave
a huge space before the next line (like four lines).
 
This could be by design, depending on what font is being used. You might
consider using a picture object, instead of an insert. Then there would be a
better chance at eliminating gaps, in the display.
