Hi, I have back up my inbox emails from Office Outlook 2003 to a PST file
using the usual export function in Outlook.

I have Outlook office 2002 and need to import the pst file. Outlook 2002
says the file is incompatible when I try to import it.

help!

Which, if you'd bothered to find out first, is NOT the way to do it. All you
needed to do was to make a copy of the pst file with Outlook closed.

Correct. You need to re-open the file in Outlook 2003, create a new pst file
in Outlook 97-2002 format and copy your data to that. Once you have done
that, do NOT use the import function. Just open the new pst file in outlook
using File-Open-Outlook Data File and either set the new file as your
default delivery location or again copy the data from the new file to the
existing one.

As mentioned frequently niether Import or Export is the correct way to deal
with native outlook data.
With OL closed you simply copy the pst, and within OL you simply open a pst
However OL2003 format pst is not compatible with OL2002, or any earlier
version.

On the OL2003 PC, within OL create a new data file using old format (97 -
2001) then copy data to this.
Close OL copy the new pst, locate this pst in the Documents folder of the
OL2002 PC
Within OL2002 open this pst (File>Open>Personal Folders...browse to the pst)
