How do I get the punctuation marks off of my word document?

My word document has all the space marks, the return mark, and other
punctuation that I don't want to appear. How do I take it off?

Press Ctrl+* or click the Show/Hide ¶ button on the Standard toolbar. For
some reasons why it is sometimes helpful to be able to see these nonprinting
