i like to have the pop up when opening mailing attachments (excel, word,
powerpoint files) that says "open or save this document," but i accidentally
unchecked the box at the bottom that says "ask me everytime before i open."
how do i restore the default settings? i have already tried changing the
default security back to the default settings (under tool --> options -->
security), but it still hasn't changed anything.

Control Panel->Folder Options->File Types->Highlight the file types and click Advanced. Check the box that says "confirm open after download."

After furious head scratching, evelyn asked:

Under "Folder Options" there is not "file types." Thus, was not helpful.
Maybe it's not a Vista thing?

Vista does not have 'File Types' under 'Folder Options' so where can I go to
change these settings???? Thank you.

Is this Vista Home?

I have a similar problem, I can no longer save an attachment for some reason,
I need to open the attachment and save from the application, tried to reset
my security settings, tried to locate a setting in Outlook 2007 about
attachment but couldn't find any, what should I do ?

What happens when you right click on the attachment and choose "Save As..."?
Whether or not it will prompt depends on your file settings in Windows.
Sadly, Windows Vista and Windows 7 does not allow you to easily modify the
"confirm open after download" flag for a file.

You can still change it via the registry though. See;

Hi

I would like to uncheck this box, so that I don't get this popup every time
I open an attachement in Outlook, but I am using Windows 7 and the
instructions that you have given don't seem to be relevant.

could you please tell me what I need to do?

thanks

Paul

Using Windows 7 and Outlook 2007 when openng attacments, I can not untick the
the box "Always ask when opening this type of file" as it is greyed out. I'm
the only user of this laptop and logged in as Admin.

How do I get control of the PC back so I can choose to untick this box and
not always be asked questions wether I really want to open the attachment I
just double clicked?
