how do I get rid of the reverse P edit marks?

hit keys and they magically appeared and can't figure out how to undo.

Tools, Options, View, Formatting Marks, Paragraph Marks,...

The reverse P edit mark is named "pilcrow".

The keys you hit were probably Ctrl+*. This is a toggle that will also turn
off the display of formatting marks or nonprinting characters. For some
information on why you might sometimes want to display them, see
