I don't know what's up with my Dell laptop, but I
uninstalled some none-use applications the other day and
now I get the hourglass reappearing every 10 seconds or
so. It doesn't affect operation of any application
however. It almost seems as though it's trying to open
an app or it's waiting for something to "start up".

Any ideas on how to get rid of this annoyance.

Thanks

Steve

I experienced this problem with a customer's pc as well.
There was an application in task manager called wtools(s)
and wtools(a) that was causing the problem. Is there an
application called wintools running on your system?

I did a search and did indeed find some "wtools" files
with .cfg, .exe, .dll extensions. Now what? Should I
delete one or all? Thanks.

I am having exactly the same problem on my window xp machine: by watching the task manager I observed that wtoolsS.exe keeps loading in and dropping out. I seems to be somewhat connected to wtoolsA.exe. I am, as yet , unable to figure out how to address this problem or what it is. I think the file are in a prefetch subdirectory. Don't know what that does, but I do wish somebody at microsoft would start looking into this.

It's malware in your system. See this page for removal info:

I installed and ran HijackThis, followed the directions,
and it seems to have taken care of the hourglass issue.
I'll keep an eye on it for the next several days and let
the group know if anything's resurfaced.

Thanks again everyone!
