How do I get rid of the +1 on the front of my phone numbers

I imported 500+ contacts from Act into outlook. This resulted in the phone
numbers coming in with the +1 in front of them. (The +1 was not in the Act
phone numbers).

I also synch the Outlook contacts with my smart phone. The problem is that
my phone doesn't work with the +1 for some reason. I think the + is what
messes it up.

If I delete the +1 on the phone number, then click on the underlined phone
number, the dialog comes up and automatically adds the +1 back in....

Any way to turn off the +1 or the formatting ?

Thanks Todd

Turn that option off in Outlook's Dialing Options...
Contacts > Actions > Call Contact > New Call...

I just posted the same question today. I still don't see how yo
globally turn that option off. I go into new Call and Dialing option
and still, I cannot remove it and resave it.

I am having the same problem as Todd

Okay. So I go to add a contact. I type in the number in xxx-xxx-xxx
fashion. If I double click on phone number while in the contact, th
dialog box pops up and the area code is in the right box as well as th
number. The number below "phone details" has a +1 before it. If I clic
ok, the number saved has the +1 before it now in the record.

If I click out of the contact record and go to actions > call contact
new call > dialing properties, it brings up a dialog box that says "ne
location" with its radio button selected.

If I go to "edit" that location, I can "United States" and I can se
the 1 in the area code field. However,if I try to remove the 1 an
apply, I get an message, "You must enter the area code for thi
location."

It will not let me remove the 1 in the area code for those numbers tha
are US numbers. I am assuming this default location is what i
prompting outlook to add the +1 before every number I denote a U
number in the contact phone number dialog box.

The 1 is not the problem it's the + I am looking to remove as that i
what my smart phone is not recognizing.

Hope this clarifies some

Your problem is with your phone.
Outlook is using standard international format, as it should.

Regardless of my reason for wanting to remove it, and assuming I'm not using it to actually dial any number, is it possible to remove the automatic formatting of "+1" in front of entered numbers? Once your zip code is entered, it doesn't appear that you can remove this from your location.
