How do I get rid of gray brackets appearing on screen&not on doc

I have 2 computers with word 2002, Office, Windows XP home version. The 2
computers are networked (peer to peer). I recently scanned and did turned
the scanned document to a word document (omni page 15). On the computer on
which the text was entered gray bracket marks are the begiining and ending of
each sentence on the screen for the word file, when I bring that document up
on the second computer the marks are not there. The marks are not printed on
either computer. What gives?

They're probably bookmarks. Tools | Options | View: clear the check mark for
"Bookmarks."
