How do I get my Alt+ keystroke options back in the new WORD?

I detest the new WORD - none of the Alt+ keystrokes from previous versions
work, and that's what made it easy and fast to operate -- seems you have to
look up from your work and manipulate the mouse to do everything we used to
be able to do with a few keystrokes. That bites. If I'm wrong, somebody
please let me know.

When you press ALT and release it, Key Tips are displayed. This are extremely
useful but may be the source of your confusion.

To use keyboard shortcuts that include ALT and a modifier (CTRL, SHIFT),
hold down ALT and press the modifier (don't release ALT before pressing the
modifier); then press any other key.

To use the Word 2003 menu key sequences, do the following:
Press ALT and the letter key simultaneously; then release them; a tip
appears near the top of the screen. Type the remaining letter or letters in
the Word 2003 menu key sequence. Selected key combinations follow:

Most of the Alt+ accelerators do still work. What exactly is it that doesn't
work for you?

Also, anything that you can do with the mouse you should also be able to do
with the keyboard - it's not necessarily easier, nor is it necessarily
possible without looking up from your work, as you say, but it should be
possible.
