how do i get English uk to stay as the default spell checker?

in outlook 2003 i have Word 2003 as my email editor and Word 2003 is
configured to use (and uses) English UK as the default spell checker - but
Outlook 2003 keeps defaulting to Enlish US as the default spell checker even
after I have manually changed it to English UK.

how do i make English UK stay as the default Outlook 2003 email spell
checker language?

Try as follows:
Start
Control Panel
Regional and Language Options
Languages tap
Details button
Setting tap
Under "Default input Language" enter "English (United Kingdom)"
Click Apply and OK.

Dave, Your solution, although good, doesn't solve the problem. I've been
having this too, and it is very frustrating. I think there is a glitch in
Outlook 2003.

I have checked the Tools > Options settings, and they are set to English
(UK), as are all my regional settings in windows and office, and I even
uninstalled the English (US) option. I checked our Exchange Server, and it is
set to English (UK). However, I still was switched back to US English with
each new email.

But try this:

Switch from HTML format to Rich Text [Outlook > Tools > Options > Mail
Format Tab]. Then open a new email and check it's language. It should be
set to UK (assuming UK is the default in control panel). Now, close the
email and close Outlook. Reopen Outlook and change the setting back to HTML.
Open a new email and check the language. For me it has retained the English
(UK) setting.

Please let me know if this works for you as I support about 4000 users and
it would be good to know if this is a solution that works.

I dont think its an OL problem neccessarily but perhaps a Word problem?

I was wondering about that too as I do have "Use MS Word 2003 to edit e-mail
messages" ticked. I know it somehow ties into Word when editing/creating
emails. But, my Word program has never had a problem remembering the UK
language. My next test was going to be to untick this and try it, but
turning HTML off and back on has 'seemed' to solve it. We'll see.

This seems to work for me.

Old emails that i received before the change are still spell checked in US
English when i reply to them.

New emails are replied to in UK English.

So - hopefully no probs from here on

In fact it didnt work!

However this did.

Office 2003 has a default language setting.

Go into programmes.
Microsoft office
Microsoft Office tools
Microsoft Office 2003 language settings
Then go to the dialogue box that says 'Choose the language that defines
default behaviour in Microsoft office Applications'

Click on the one you want. An Office logo appears next to it in the 'enabled
languages' box.

You're right! My idea doesn't work, not long term anyway. And your's does

I have the same problem but mine comes uip with Welsh!! and there is not even
a spell checker for that even if I did want it.
Did you get any response from Microsoft?

Hi All
I know that this link is old. I've done this last step and it has fiexed
the language, but created a new problem...
My compose pane is now being magnified, for both replying and composing new
e-mails.
Did anyone else experience this problem, and/or, know of a solution?

Those issues are unrelated. I guess you are using Word as the email editor?
Check your zoom-factor and verify that it is set to 100%
