How do I get deleted IMAP inbox messages to move to deleted items

I am having trouble getting my IMAP Inbox messages marked for deletion to
move to the "Deleted Items" folder. When I select "Purge Deleted Messages",
the messages are removed from the Inbox, but they do not move to the "Deleted
Items" folder. Can anyone help?

That's the way IMAP works. If you want the deleted items to move to Deleted Items, you'll need to move them manually.

You cannot do that. IMAP does not support a Deleted Items folder.
Instead, messages are marked for deleted (the strike-through) and
permanently deleted when you say purge. Purging for IMAP is identical to
emptying the Deleted Items folder.
If you don't want the deleted messages to be shown, select a view that
hides deleted messages (View menu, Current View).

If IMAP doesn't support this, then howcome it works in every other mail
client I have used?
Thunderbird, Evolution, Pegasus, Netscape etc....
I think your answer may be technically correct, but it is just another way
of looking at the question.
A mail client can handle "delete" function any way it wants to.

Outlook should have an option for IMAP accounts that looks like this:

When I delete a message in this IMAP accounts folders, do not mark the
message as deleted, but instead
move the message to folder: <define folder here>.
(note that deleting messages in <defined folder> will purge the message.)

I have many e-mail accounts. I want to use Outlook to manage all my e-mail
accounts.
But I have several. My primary account is my work account, and it is on an
Exchange server (with calendaring, and such).
My other accounts for civic organizations and personal correspondence are on
IMAP servers.

Can we please make Outlook better by allowing an option on IMAP accounts
within Outlook that enables the function:

When deleting messages in this IMAP accounts folders do not mark them
as deleted, but instead move them to <folder name here>. (Note: messages in
the designated folder that are deleted will be purged.)
