How do I get a cell to show the data and not the formula?

Everytime I enter a formula into a cell, only the formula shows. The cell
above it, shows the text or number in it. If I copy that formula down it
works, but as soon as I change the formula manually it shows just the formula
again.
 
Is the cell formatted as Text? To check, select the cell, and choose
Format>Cells
