I am replicating a document for my teacher which contains trailing periods so
it looks something like:
Purchased by self...................1
Purchased by other................2
I know there is a way to format all those periods so that everything lines
up nice and neat but I cannot remember how! Can anyone remember!?

This is called a tab leader. You can set up the type of tab leader from the
format > tabs dialog.

Set a right tab with dot leaders where you want the page numbers to appear,
then type your text and press the Tab key. (You didn't say what version of
Word you're working in, but in Word 2000, go to Format/Tabs and click on the
"dot leader" option to make the dots.) Your cursor will move across the page
to where you set the tab so you can type in the page number(s).
