How do I find where there are style changes in Word?

Trying to edit a Word document, a single deletion can mess the formatting for
several pages. I then have to UNDO and try to find another way of performing
the deletion without messing up the document. It would help SOOOOOO MUCH if
I could just have a function like Word Perfect's "Reveal codes" that would
show me just where the style changes occured in the document and what they
were.

It seems as if you are inadvertently deleting paragraph marks, which means
that the text of two paragraphs merges into one, and the style of the first
paragraph is being applied to all the text. Displaying nonprinting marks
would probably be helpful; you can do that for example by pressing
Ctrl+Shift+8 (acts as a toggle).
