how do i find my old outlook express emails?

I just bought a new PC with Vista and see that microsoft mail appears
instead of outlook express. I have my old hard drive also connected to the
new PC so imagine all old emails are there somewhere, but how can I access
them?

Simply sellect all messages in a folder in your old computer from Outlook
Express
and drag them to the same folder (add as Necessary) to Microsoft Mail on
your new one.

No, that won't work since OE uses a different file format.

Search the old drive for .DBX files. Once you have that location,
go here: http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx and scroll down to the section
"Importing from Outlook Express" and follow the six steps.

Thanks for the reply Gary. It seems like I can't follow the procedures as I
need to have both XP and Vista available at the same time, whereas the shop
said they were helping me by installing my old hard drive in my new PC, and
therefore I only have access to Vista in my new PC. Do I need to move the old
hard drive back into the old PC where I have XP, before starting this process?

No, you don't need to have Windows XP running.
All you need to do is is navigate to the DBX folders on the old hard drive.
Which one of the six steps is giving you trouble?

Thanks for the reply, Gary. I haven't tried any of the 6 steps so far as I
wanted to know whether I needed XP running or not. But let's take step 1, for
example- do I create the new directory in the old hard drive or the new one?
I think I also have the problem that all my docs in XP were protected so when
I try to go into any of them now via Vista, it says I don't have access?
Thanks

Gary, just to let you know that I finally managed to copy the OE files to
Vista. The problem was that I had all files protected on the old hard drive.
Once I went back into XP and unblocked them all, it was very straightforward
to copy them with the 6 steps. Thanks very much
