How do I find Auto Archived itiems?

My computer is constantly archiving items from my email. How do I locate
them. I get nothing when I go to my Archive Folder. Are they archived
somewhere else?

Ok, I did what you suggested and it produced no results. Where else can I
check? I really need to find an archived email!

Followed your instructions. The Auto Archive box comes up and I browsed under
the default archive file: "move old items to" box and I get another box -
Find Personal Folders box. It lists "archive" and "outlook". When I click
archive, I am brought right back to the origianl Auto Archive box that I
started from! I should have emails at least 6 months old! Where are they?

No, how do I do that?

There are several ways. With Windows 2000/XP, there is an advanced search
option that has check boxes for that. You can also enable it in Windows
Explorer's Tools>Folder Options>View

I am having this same problem. I have done everything that everyone says, I
thought this last one would do the trick. When I went in Explorer's
Tools>Folder Options>View It was checked to show all hidden files and
folders. So where are they. I know I have archived items SOMEWHERE from
months back.

Where does Outlook tell you the archive PST resides?

It is in
c:documentsandsettings\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Outlook\archive.pst \

Then click FIle>Open>Outlook Data File and browse to that file. You may
need to enable showing of hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer with
Tools>Folder Options>View.

Brian:
I tracked your work with "Foley22" and and am impresssed. Thanks for the
work, gratis.
I have the same problem finding my AutoArchives. I am using Windows XP
Professional with the Service Pack 2. I looked in my Explorer Tools>Options.
There was no FOLDER. There was no VIEW under Options. Therefore, I did not
verify that I could see hidden files. Also, I accessed C:\Documentsand
Settings\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Outlook. This directory did not contain
"archive.pst". I did a search of my C:\ directory for
*.pst" and found nothing. How do I find my AutoArchive files?
Thakns for your time and help.

Double-click My Computer. Click Tools>Folder Options (the bottom-most, just
below a horizontal line), then the View tab.

You can also click Start>Control Panel>Appearance and Themes>Folder Options
and find the View tab there, if youre Control Panel is in the Category View
or Control Panel>Folder Options, if in Classic view.

WHere does Outlook tell you the archive file is located? What does
File>Archive has as the path? Also, each folder can have its own archive
file. When you right-click each folder, choose Properties, then the
AutoArchive tab, you'll see the path that folder is using.

Many thanks, again, for your patience and perserverance. I found the exact
path that you described to ..../archives.pst. When I access it from the
directory I get several warnings about "The oprating system...if edit or
modify ...damage system." I went one step further and obtained a warning
about "Windows needs to know what program the file came from..." I can "Open
With" it. I chose not to "Open With" for fear of messing up my system.
Alternately, I entereed Outlook system and cliked to "Archives Files". I have
only FIVE folders in that directory. Each one has only one file/e-mail. I
know I have AutoArchived hundreds of old e-mails. I still can't find them.

Never open a PST from Windows Explorer.

Open any PST from within Outlook with File>Open>Outlook Data File.

If you've opened in Outlook every PST you can find on your hard drive and
your archived messages are not in any of them you haven't moved any PST to a
network share, then it appears you no longer have the archive file(s)
containing the old messages and are out of luck.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what this means. AutoArchive is the rocess by which Outlook
examines the various dates of an Outlook item and automatically moves it to
a predetermined Archive PST. If there are "a bunch" of items that match the
archive criterion, they will all be moved to the Archive PST. If you do not
accidentally lose this archive PST, the items Outlook moved to it will will
be there when you wish to reexamine them. I don't know what else to tell
you. I don't know why they are no longer available, but archive files do
NOT disappear by themselves, just as no Windows file system object
disappears by itself.

I was having the same problem and followed all your instructions. I did find
my archive.pst file but don't know how to open it to review the data. Can you
instruct on this.
