How do I find a deleted excel file? Or an autosave file?

My boss deleted an excel file while in File>Open. She accidentally right
clicked and then clicked delete. We've tried looking for it in the Recycle
Bin, but is not there. Would Excel put it somewhere else? What about the
location of an autosave file? She could at least use that so all work is not
lost. HELP!

If you are with a company that has a Network, and an MIS department, the
chances are that they back up all data occasionally.........just request them
to retrieve an older copy of the file for you.

When I try to delete a file in the Open dialog box XL asks me if I am sure
that I want to sent it to the Recycle bin. What version of Xl ae you using?

Thanks Sandy......yes, I'm finally back up to sub-par, thanks to much coffee
and many many meds.....<g>.........or maybe it's just the temperature that
got me here this morning........43 degrees here in St. Petersburg
Florida..........I moved down here from Virginia to get away from that sort
of thing..........got my PH (Personal Heater) sitting here on the desktop to
keep my fingers from turning blue. I thought it was a stupid Xmas present
but boy am I glad I got it!

Maybe OP has the Recycle Bin Properties set to "do not move to recycle bin.
remove files immediately when deleted".

Or "display delete confirmation dialog" is unchecked.

Not normal settings, but possible.

What version of Excel.

Any version newer than Excel 200 does not have an "Autosave" function.

Only has an "Autorecovery" function which is not a real "autosaved" version of
the file and is deleted when Excel is closed or the file is closed.

Having said that, you may get lucky and the "autorecovery" file may still be
hanging around.

Drill down to

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel

and look for any files with names like ~ar35E2.xls or similar.

Double-click to open and see what you get.

As far as not being in the Recycle Bin, see my post to Sandy.

Oh yeah, THAT THING..........I thought about it, especially every morning
when the alarm goes off.....but on my way home from work I stop at the
Computer Store and then I remember why I keep doing it..........it keeps me
in toys.

These are Windows settings, not Excel settings.

Right-click on your Recycle Bin on your Desktop and see Propperties.
