When I try to create an email distribution list by copying from "TO" or "CC"
line, it fails to recognize some of the names (doe snot expand them into an
email address).

State your Outlook version, information store, and a clearer description of
what you are doing.

The version is MS Office Outlook 2003...part of MS Outlook Professional
Edition 2003.

Here's the problem:

I am trying to create a distribution list from an email I have received from
the TO and CC list. of the email. WHat's on the TO and CC list are email
addresses (e.g. (e-mail address removed)) or display names (if I right lick on it, I see
the associated email address). In order to create a distribution list, I
copy the TO and CC list and then do FILE->NEW->Distribution List->Paste to
Members (in Add to DL). If I then say ok, it comes back with an error for
the first display name (on the list (e.g. MS Outlook does not recognize "John
Garcia") ...because it fails to expand John Garcia with it's email address.

I am trying to build DLs and other things for mas smailing. I would like to
be able to capture email lists from incoming emails so I can email tio them
in the future. I understand mailmerge is a nice way of managing mass
emails...but I have to figure out how to use it.

In the mean time I am trying to figure out how I can copy/paste a displayed
name on the incoming email such that it expands it's email address so I can
capture it. One long way would be to right click on each one and then copy
the email address instead of the displayed name but that would be a
cumbersome way of doing it. WOndering how I can do several names in one shot.

Thanks in advance for your help.

This method rarely works. It will only work if the addresses you receive
contain both a name and an email address. Many don't display that way.
