How do I expand list of 4 documents displayed at the end of File .

V

Victoria

in WORD, how do I expand the list of 4 documents displayed at the bottom end
of File between Properties and EXIT? I was told this was possible but can't
figure it out. I lost a document and can't recover it but it should be in
there somewhere.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi Victoria,

For:
.. Word 97-2003, go to Tools|Options|General and change the number displayed in the 'recently used file list' option.
..Word 2007, go to Word Options|Advanced, scroll down to 'Display' and change the number displayed in the 'show this number of recent
documents' option.

What version of Word are you using?

In 2003 and earlier, "expanding the list" will not magically bring back a
lost document. Your "Getting Started" task pane may well contain more than
four documents. You might try opening it. You can expand the list under the
File menu by going to Tools - Options - General and changing the number in
the box that says "Recently Used Files List." You can go up to 9.

I don't know how the recently used files list works in 2007, but the logic
will probably be similar. I really doubt that you'll suddenly see more
documents.

Thank you for your help. I changed it but it won't increase in size, inly
decrease! Is there something I need to disable for it to work?

Once again, which version of Word are you using? Without knowing that, we're
just guessing.

Did you try opening the Getting Started task pane? In 2003, you can get to
the task panes by pressing Ctrl-F1 or by looking under the View menu. I think
that it always displays 9 items (which is the max).

Thanks for your response. Yes, I have 2003, so your answers are helpful, but
in the Getting Started task pane, it won't display any more than 'one' at the
moment, even after I try going to Tools-Options- General- increasing to 9?
I'll try shutting everything down and starting afresh.

At this point, no files will display. I guess I'll have to phone the help
line.
Thanks for trying.

Hi Victoria,

The number of files displayed won't change until you actually open some more files - the change doesn't apply retrospectively.

Duh! I did figure that out eventually. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Much appreciated.

Hi Victoria,

When I scroll down to Display, the 'Show number of recent docs' option is
turned off. How can I turn this feature back on?

Thanks.

Are you using "privacy" settings in TweakUI or any other application to
suppress the display of Recent Documents on the Start menu?
