How do I enter unique row ID's in multiple tabs in Excell?

I have a spreadsheet with over 20 tabs and each with a few hundred rows. All
sheets are identically formatted (column structure). I need to move rows in
and out of the sheets (while editing them by others) and then swap them back
into the respective tab & rows. Today I do this visually but thought with a
unique row id (much like an index in Acces) I would know exactly what record
to swap out. If there a way to first number all these tabs and then to
automatically insert new records with the next index number? In access this
would be easy but in Excell this is proving quite challenging.

If this is possible - then is it possible to perform this automatic swapping
out of the records in Excell? For example, if I had one tab with the records
to be swapped and the whole sheet that it would search, identify, delete &
insert or copy over the record?

Thanks

Unless you are using all of your columns for other purposes, you could use
one of them to insert a numerical sequence, which you could then use as a
record number.
You could use a number series to ID the specific worksheet, i.e. 100000 =
sheet 1, 200000 = sheet 2, etc. And if you can explain what you are doing
clearly enough, someone will try to help you automate it. I am afraid this
posting is not that clear.
