How do I eliminate lines that appear by clicking the bullets tab?

I currently have Microsoft Word 2007 and when I want to click the bullets tab
a line above and below text appears? I need to elimate and how?
 
How odd. In the Paragraph group (Home tab), if you drop down the borders
tool and click on No Borders, does that fix it?
