how do I edit titles?

This should be an easy one for all of the experts with this software. I am a
"first time movie maker" and am navigating my way through the process. I
have titles in my movie and have them on the wrong clips. I can't seem to
edit them after they are actually on the clip. I am highlighting it and then
going to tools and edit title is not highlighted. I also tried to just
delete a title and it won't let me. I can delete a title that is in it's own
clip, but not when it is on an actual picture itself. Can anyone walk me
through this?

Go to timeline view and you will see your titles in the Title Overlay on the
bottom of the timeline.
Double click the title you wish to edit and you can make the changes. If you
simply need it to go with a different clip drag it along the timeline until
it is below the correct clip.

Hi momof3.....if you are still making your movie, the title should be on the
'title overlay' line beneath your timeline. If you double click on it, you
can edit the title that you made. Also, if the clip is in the wrong place,
just click on it to 'grab' it; and move it to where you want it to be shown.

However, if you have already saved your movie, and you are working on a
finished movie you re-imported, then you can no longer 'edit' a title you
rendered right into the movie. If that is the case you can always 'split'
in front and behind the scene and delete it, and then re-engineer your movie
by bringing in your 'pure' original clip.

Have fun with movie maker...it is great.

Thanks so much!! Worked perfect! Do you have an easy answer to saving movie
to DVD to play back on tv. I think I understand I need movie maker 2.1 and I
need software like mydvd5. Is it easy after that?

Thanks! That worked. I read some of your notes re:dvds to play on tv. Will
Movie Maker 2.1 and mydvd5 allow me to do that? How complicated is it? Can
I do it with just a dvd ROM drive?

Hi again momof3. Glad it worked....now, for making dvd's you will need a
burner, not dvd-rom which is a 'read only'. This means you can't 'write' to
a dvd. For this you'd have to buy a dvd burner at a place like Best Buy
etc. Prices generally run from about $75 to $350....and they come in either
'internal' or 'external' meaning in or out of your computer. If you get
hooked up to your computer, you will be able to make your own dvd's. And
yes, all you need is Movie Maker and a software authoring/burning program
such as MyDVD. I prefer Ulead's Movie Factory, but then again, you may get
some good software with the new burner...ya just never know.
In Movie Maker you would save your completed movie...by clicking on 'save to
my computer' and following the wizard. Save your movie (in other settings)
as DV-AVI format....it will be a large file, but you can delete it later.
You can also save your movie again as a 'high quality - ntsc' movie that you
can then view on your computer.
Once you movie is saved as DV-AVI format as a file on your computer....you
can open up your MyDVD or other burning software and 'import' your movie.
Then just follow the programs instructions on how to 'burn' your dvd from
there....you'll have to go and buy some blank dvd's too....get some +R's and
some -R's to see if both formats work in your dvd player connected to your
TV. Plan on making a few ruined blanks at first and use them for coffee
coasters next to the player!! ha ha ha Good luck if you attempt
it....you'll have frustrating moments but also some fun. And if you learn
how its always fun.......sure, now that I have no more hair to pull out!
Just kiddin'

Okay, I'll be looking for you later after I get all of my equipment. :)
Thanks for the 123 instructions. That's great. I made a movie for my mom in
laws 70th birthday, without knowing it could only be viewed on computer. A
friend has it now trying to convert to DVD for me-hope he can. But for next
time I am going to try and learn to do it myself. Sounds like it can
frustrating too..I'll look you up. Thanks again.

One more question about editing the titles. I finally found the title
overlay bar. My computer was in the wrong resolution and I didn't even know
that it was there. But now I have successfully edited titles using the bar.
The only one I'm having trouble with is the first one. I see all the others
on the bar. But on my very first clip I have a title on it and don't want it
there. It shows up on the movie but not on the title overlay. I tried to
just delete it but it won't let me. I know I'm doing something wrong but
what?

I don't quite understand what you mean....but i'll give it a shot. It
sounds like you can't find your beginning title. If originally you put your
title 'before the selected clip' then you title is right up on the top
'video' line....on the timeline. If you see it play in the preview screen
you can watch the 'bar' go across your video and you will notice where the
clip is. It probably the very beginning of the video.....you can just
'right' click on it and 'delete' it to get rid of it. Of if you just prefer
to change it, you double click on it like you did when you edited the others
on the title overlay line.

When you click on 'make titles or credits' you will note the various choices
you have...that will determine where your 'title' goes....such as 'title
before the selected clip' ...''title on the selected clip' etc. The title
you wish to remove was probably selected as ''title at the beginning' of the
movie.

As you learn more about Movie Maker, if you have some spare time, once in a
while you should read some of the items in the 'help' file. Click on
'help' at the top, then 'help topics'....and then 'index'. You can go
down the list to select the items you want to learn about. For example,
this would be a good time to click on the items under 'titles'...there is
more to learn on the subject than I can write about. Good luck.

Yes MyDVD5 will do that and it isn't difficult at all but no you can't do it
with a DVDROM drive that drive only reads and plays DVD disks. You need a
DVD writer to create DVD's.
