How do I edit an Outlook e-mail template that I created?

Is it an .OFT file? Open a new message based on the template, make your
changes, then save over the old .OFT file.

As a follow up to law3's question, I would also like to edit an .oft file.

I am creating an "out of Office" rule in MS Outlok 2003 and have initially
set up the rule using the .oft file and saved same, ie "I will be out of the
office today". This was saved in the Templates folder.

I would now like to amend the text to reflect a longer duration ie "I will
be out of the office for the period of...and so on and so on" Sometimes the
text can be very lengthly.

Based on previous inquiries, one has to re-input all the text again, which
can be lengthly at times, and save the .oft file by overwriting the existing
..oft file.

My question is this:
"if I create an .oft file that states an out of office reply, how do I amend
the dates if I use this .oft file on a re-occurring basis, without having to
type in the lengthly out of office text again simply to change a departing
and returning date?

There must be a shorter way. How does one view an .oft file in order to view
and amend the text? Is it possible?
 
You just open the original .OFT file from Windows, edit it and save over the
original...easy as pie.

Thanks Jocelyn, but I tried that prior to seeking help from this forum so
that I would not bother you with silly questions..

I opened the .oft file and a new message appeared but the 'out of office'
text was not there with the exception of my signature?

I must be doing something wrong.

I create the template and then save it in the Outlook Template directory.
When I open the directory using Windows Explorer, I see the .oft file, but
again, when I select it, the text is missing.

Is there any more information I can give you to?

That is odd. Have you tried creating a brand new mail message with your
desired info and saving it to a new .OFT file in another Windows folder, then
opening that file? Just wondering if the first one has somehow gotten
corrupted.

Ok, it worked and my greeting is displayed, but it was originally positioned
below my signature, which is why I was not initially seeing the greeting, as
I was looking for it above the signature.

All is good...

You need to open the template then do Tools, Forms, Design this Form
You need to have the text on both the Compose page and the Read page. Then
save it.

Sorry, but I am new at this. I created the .otf file and have used it. Now I
want to change a few words without re-typing the whole form. Can you walk me
through it? I tried your previous instructions, but did not get to the same
place.

Turn off Word as your email editor.
Run the .oft file.
Change the words.
Choose File | Save As to save it as a new .oft file under another name.

THANKS FOR THE HELP. WHY DOES MY SIGNATURE APPEAR ABOVE AND BELOW THE
REVISED TEMPLATE? CAN I CHANGE THAT?
 
If you're referring to an .oft template file, you delete it the same way you would any other file -- select it in Windows Explorer and press Delete.

Do you see one or two signatures if you turn off your autosignature?

in fileformat so I can just save as .doc, .dot, .rtf etc.

You must turn off Word as your editor before you try to modify a message that you plan to save as an .oft file. Tools | Options | Mail Format
