how do I draw a spiral in powerpoint?

I want to draw a spiral in the middle of an X/Y coordinate system, then
annotate it with text. Although there are line and curve tools, there isn't
a spiral tool.

The easiest way is to import a spiral from more advanced graphic programs.

The harder way.
You can use the Draw, line freeform tool to trace a sprial left or spiral
right motion path.
- Select an object, and add a spiral left/right custom animation effect to
the object.
- Leave the custom animation task pane open, you can select the draw line
freeform tool to trace the sprial path.

Some powerpoint add-ins may also provide cut/paste of more complex autoshapes.

Pardon the attachment but it's tiny.

Corel Draw has a spiral tool that's handy for this. I drew a spiral with it
then did a copy/Paste Special as EMF into PPT to preserve the curves. After
ungrouping a couple of times, it leaves this.

If it helps, use it as is or select it and use Edit Points to get an idea how
it's constructed and/or to change it.
