It's been a long time since I was in school, but I think Webster's
Dictionary would consider WFP (Windows File Protection) as
either:

Acronym:
A word formed from the initial letters of a name, such as WAC for
Women's Army Corps, or by combining initial letters or parts of a
series of words, such as radar for radio detecting and ranging.

Abbreviation:
A shortened form of a word or phrase used chiefly in writing to
represent the complete form, such as Mass. for Massachusetts
or USMC for United States Marine Corps

I don't want to get into an argument over this, but I think
you're missing the salient point in the above definition (which
is correct). An acronym is a word, a pronounceable word. Regular
(non-pronounceable) abbreviations are *not* acronyms.

So, because "radar" is pronounced RAY-dar, it's an acronym, but
if it were pronounced arr-ay-dee-ay-arr, it would be a simple
abbreviation, and not an acronym. Because we don't try to say
something like WUFF-up, "WFP" is *not* an acronym.
