I'm new to the Windows platform. I want to be able to
capture an image of the screen and save it as a file.
I have no idea how to capture a screen shot. Thanks!

Higlight the screen you want to save (click on it) and press Alt/Print
Screen then use Paste to put it into something like paint.

You probably could have just looked in Windows Help for this information. In
some cases MS actually does provide common information like this. Anyway, to
quote what Help told me:

To copy the window or screen contents
a.. To make a copy of the active window, press ALT+PRINT SCREEN.
b.. To copy the entire screen as it appears on your monitor, press PRINT
SCREEN.
Note

a.. To paste the image into a document, click the Edit menu in the
document window, and then click Paste.

Greetings --

Pressing the <PrtScn> key copies the entire display to the
clipboard. Pressing <ALT>+<PrtScn> copies only the active Window to
the clipboard. To view the screen capture, open a graphics program,
such as MS Paint, and press <CTRL>+V. This will paste the contents of
the clipboard (your screenshot) into the open file, and allow you to
view it or save it as a file for later use.
