Hi, I am the network administrator at my company, and we have an employee
running windows XP PRO.
I would like to remove the internet access from that computer, but would not
like to loose acces to the network resources or the exchange server.

I can do this through the firewall by assigning them a static IP, but would
much rather just disable the HTTP.

I would like to do it on the user level, so the I (the admin) can still do
windows updates...

This person is abusing the internet and going to sites which are not
apropriate.

Is there a simple way?

Thanks in advance,
David Bock

Hello David,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

Based on my knowledge, I think the Group Policy in Windows XP can not
achieve your goal. If your network is a domain environment, we strongly
recommend Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server that should be a
good solution to achieve your goal.

Please note that the partner managed newsgroups provide assistance to
resolve break/fix issues. We are happy to provide general information in
regard to this query.

We also recommend Microsoft Advisory Services. CSS Advisory Services is a
remotely delivered, hourly fee-based, consultative support option that
provides proactive support beyond your break-fix product maintenance needs
like product migration, code review, or new program development. For more

If you have any questions about ISA Proxy Server setting, I also suggest
you may post in the newsgroup below:

I hope this information is helpful in getting started and we invite you to
post again with any specific break/fix issues.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi ken,

I was remembering back from Win9X that there was an easy way to disable
internet access. I will just assign a physical IP and restrict HTTP and
HTTPS. I guess I could restrict all internet access, but then I couldn't
update through MSUPDATTE, or the virus definitions.

Thanks again for your help,

Thanks for the help,

after looking at my options, it was easiest to assign the 2 users static
IP's and deny them access through the firewall. Not as elegant as your
solutions, but sometimrs K.I.S.S. works.

Thanks again for all of your help,

David Bock
