How do I disable auto update?

How do I disable auto update. Several vendors like Adobe
and Avid have notified me that my system will break with
SP2 until they release new versions. How do I disable
Automatic Update so I do not have to fight installation of
SP2?

Hi Bill,

Right-click on My Computer, select Properties then Automatic Updates tab.
Click in the radio button beside "Turn off automatic updating. I want to
update my computer manually". Click on Apply then OK.

Thank you. I found this on the micosoft site too. There
is no such control panel in XP Pro. The other answer
worked.

Micorsoft shoud keep their site up to date.

You're welcome :)

Most (if not all) responses that consist of opening a particular applet in
Control Panel are based on Control Panel being in Classic View. If Control
Panel is in Category View (you see "Pick a category" above the icons), you
would have had to click on Performance and Maintenance icon, then System
icon under "or Pick a Control Panel icon". Alternatively, you could switch
to Classic View by clicking on "Switch to Classic View" link in the left
sidebar.
